Pay attention to what you drink when you are trying to lose weight. All beverages that you drink, aside from water, contains some calories. All the calories from soft drinks, Kool-aid, beer, etc. really add up. Count these calories, so you stay on the right track.

Try taking the stairs if you are serious about losing weight. It might not seem like much to walk short flights of stairs, but you burn calories by taking the stairs instead of the elevator, even if just a few stories you are climbing.

When beginning a new diet, make sure your goals are realistic. Just like anything else, if the goal is not realistic, you probably won't achieve it. Setting a very short time limit to lose a large amount of weight is setting yourself up to fail. Instead, set an attainable goal for each week. Don't look at the big picture. Focus instead on losing smaller amounts of weight each week.

Take a small break during each meal. Our bodies sometimes get confused and don't know when we are full. Just remember to make stopping for a few moments between courses a regular habit. Pause for several minutes and reevaluate your hunger. You should think about how much you eat.

Try not miss any meals. Make sure to eat at least three meals every day. You can work in a snack here and there, but keep it small so that you still have room for your regular meals. By doing this, you can keep your body adjusted to a healthy eating rhythm.

After serving yourself a meal at home, be sure to put away the leftover food. This will prevent you from eating more. This is much simpler if you live alone or with just one other person. At least keep the food out of sight on the kitchen counter rather than on the table while you eat.
